Meeting Time:

Meetings for Fall 2013 will be on Thursdays from 6-9pm in Room 10.014. That's the small conference room behind the reception area for the CS and EE departments. If you come after 6pm, your id card may not get you in so follow the directions on the door and call the reception desk. We will be able to hear the phone.

Purpose

This site will provide information for anyone interested in participating in the Polytech Programming Team. We will hold training sessions to prepare for the ACM competitions, as well as for other competitions.

ACM Competitions

The ACM competition is two-tiered, with a regional and an international competition. For details check the links below. Briefly:

• Competitions are five hours with approximately eight problems.
• Teams consist of three members.
• Number of teams allowed per school depends on the contest site. Two or three per school for the regional meets is common.
• Usually you have only one computer for the team, provided by the competition's host.
• Reference materials allowed at the international is limited to a 25 page document.
• Scoring is based on how many questions your team gets right. Judges run your code against their test set, which you don't get to see. In the case of ties, the amount of time spent on each problem is used to break the tie.
• The programming languages allowed in the interantional competition are C, C++, Java and Pascal. The NYC regional specified ADA instead of Pascal for 2003.
• The development environments to be used and the underlying operating system are specified fy the hosting site.
